The Value of a PMP – Speaking the Same Language

Confusion The Value of a PMP Speaking the Same Language

PMPs speak a common language, preventing confusion and nasty surprises.

If you’re hiring a consultant, why would you choose someone that has a Project Management Professional credential? (Besides the fact that they have extra initials after their name that look kind of neat on an RFP?)

Project Management Professionals (or PMPs) have met verified experience requirements, agreed to a code of ethics, and passed a rigorous exam administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI.)

But the most useful thing about hiring PMPs happens when more than one of them are working on a team or Project Management Office (PMO.) They actually speak the same language!  (And they know what all these acronyms mean!)

Although you might think that all businesspeople generally communicate pretty well, misunderstandings are all too common, and they waste time, money, and could potentially have more harmful effects.

When PMPs use terms like “work breakdown structure,” “on schedule,” “project phase,” or even “at risk” you know that each person has a very precise picture of what the other is talking about.

That can be very helpful in keeping your projects moving smoothly toward objectives, and more importantly, avoid nasty surprises.
